TMT/Rebar Production Process

Rebar rolling mill production line is for producing TMT Rebar. The Bar rods are made with Billets/Ingot, the conveying roller passes the steel billet back and forth into the roughing unit through hot rolling which then passes through various stands to get the desired shape and size. The finished steel after hot rolling passes through the quenching system to increase the strength of the Rebar’s and later enters the cooling bed for cooling and straightening, cutting, stacking, packaging, weighing, and storage.

The TMT Rebar’s (Thermo mechanically treated Rebar’s) is a combination of plastic deformation of steel in austenitic stage followed by quenching and further tempering. The process ensures uniform properties in each Rebar which is controlled at each critical operation to provide the TMT Rebar with a soft ferrite & pearlite fine grained core and a strong and tough tempered layer imparting it with high ductility as well as strength.

Major Parameters of a Rolling Mill

Reheating–: The first stage in the rolling mill process is that of reheating the input material usually billet to the rolling temperature. The important parameters in reheating process are heating rate, temperature of reheating and the  time of heating

Rolling –: The next stage after reheating comes the process of making the rebar’s from the heated billets and the main parameters for rolling in the roughing, intermediate, and finishing group of stands in the rolling mill are temperature, percentage of reduction in area and inter-pass time

Cooling –: The last stage comes that of Quenching and cooling of the Rebar’s The major parameters after finish rolling during cooling of the rolled product are start temperature, cooling rate and the final temperature.
